How to prepare Flattened Rice Lemon Upma|Aval Upma? Recipe by Anuradha Ramaswamy
Lemon aval upma is one of the easiest breakfast option and can be prepared with beaten rice, lemons and mild spices. Aval is tamil word for beaten rice or flattened rice. It is also known as poha in North India.Below is the step by step process to prepare Flattened Rice Lemon Upma|Aval Upma.
Flattened Rice Lemon Upma|Aval Upma
Flattened rice 1 cup
Lemon juice 2 to 3 spoon
Red chilli 2
Turmeric ¼ spoon
Mustard seeds ½ spoon
Asafoetida ¼ spoon
Bengal gram dhal 1 spoon
Curry leaves little
Salt as per taste
Oil 2 spoon
Wash flattened rice and sprinkle water and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, asafoetida, Bengal gram dhal, red chilli, curry leaves, turmeric and salt, mix well. Add soaked flattened rice and cook for 5 minutes in low flame, keep stirring in between. Turn off the stove, add lemon juice and serve for tiffin or for light dinner.
Soak flattened rice in tamarind juice and follow the rest of the procedure to get tamarind flavor upma.
