How to prepare Masal Vadai? Recipe by Anuradha Ramaswamy
Masal vadai/Masala vada/Paruppu vadai is one of the most popular south Indian snack that is made up of chana dal/ bengal gram dal with some spices. It can be had as a snack with a cup of hot tea/Coffee. Masal vadai/Masala vada/Paruppu vadai is an yummy , delicious, aromatic and crunchy snack. Below is the step by step process of masala vada recipe.
Masal Vadai
Ingredients
Bengal gram dhal ¼ cup
Ginger 1” grated
Fennel seeds ½ + 1 spoon
Onion 2 big chopped
Curry leaves little chopped
Green chilli 3 chopped
Cloves 2
Cinnamon ½”
Salt as per taste
Oil to fry
Method
Soak dhal for 45 minutes and grind with ½ spoon of fennel seeds, cloves and cinnamon by sprinkling water if necessary. Add ginger, 1 spoon fennel seeds, curry leaves, onion, green chilli and salt. Heat oil in a kadai, take small quantity of the grinded dhal and flatten in between your palms and put it in the oil carefully. Fry till it becomes golden brown and remove from kadai and serve with chutney or sambar.
Note
The grinded paste should not be watery as it will get spread in oil.
