Rice Upma | Arisi Upma is a simple and delicious breakfast in south India, Particularly in Tamil Nadu. It is Very easy and simple recipe to prepare.

Rice Upma | Arisi Upma is a very common breakfast in most Tamil Brahmin houses. If you have rice, then this healthy breakfast can be put together in minutes using a Kadai or pressure cooker.

Rice Upma | Arisi Upma is made with raw rice. One pot meal can be prepared if you are looking for a filling breakfast or dinner. Let us see the step by step process.

 

Rice Upma | Arisi Upma

 

Ingredients

Rice                                                                 1 cup coarsely grounded

Red chilli                                                        2 – 3

Salt                                                                 as per taste

Mustard seeds                                             1 spoon

Bengal gram dhal(கடலை பருப்பு)

& Black gram dhal(உளுத்தம் பருப்பு) ½ spoon each

Asafoetida                                                    ½ spoon

Curry leaves                                                  little

Oil                                                                   1 table spoon

Ghee                                                              1 spoon

 

Method

1. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, bengal gram dhal, black gram dhal, asafoetida, red chilli and curry leaves.
2. Once it stops splitters pour 2 cups of water (for 1 cup rice 2 cups of water required or it may varies according to the quality of rice) and Salt.
3. Once the water is boiled add the rice and mix it well. Allow to boil for 5 minutes.
4. Check the status of the rice and add more water (if required).Put the flame in low and allow it for another 3-5 minutes to boil.
5. Now your delicious Rice Upma | Arisi Upma is ready for serve.
