How to prepare Upma kozhukattai? Recipe by Anuradha Ramaswamy
The Upma Kozhukattai is one of the popular easy and healthy tiffin item. Upma kozhukattai is a dish which is usually made for evening tiffin or dinner at out place.These are nothing but steamed rice rava dumplings. They taste great with sambar and chutney.
Raw rice 1 cup
Coconut 1/2 portion grated
Curry leaves few
Mustard seeds 1/4 spoon
Asafoetida 3 pinches
Black gram dhal 1 spoon
Oil 1 spoon
Salt as per taste
Wash and soak the rice for 1/2 hour, drain and grind coarsely.
Now pour oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, asafoetida, black gram dhal, redchilli, curry leaves, coconut, and required water.
Mix well and add the grinded rice and keep stirring till it becomes tight. Allow it to cool and take a small amount and give shapes.
Take a idly maker or cooker, pour water and keep these in the idly plates and steam cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
Remove from flame and serve with coconut chutney or sambar.
Do not grind rice into powder, it should be coarsely done.
Water level may vary 1:1 or 1:2 according to the rice
